Unlimited Traffic with Server Co-location

A co-location server is much the same as any other server in that it houses and connects your website to the internet. Many companies will often build you your own server or they will provide you with your own personal dedicated server that only handles your companies’ online business. This is known as a dedicated server as it is dedicated to your needs only.

The difference between a co-location server and a dedicated server is that with a dedicated server the web hosting company owns the actual server, while with a co-location server the web hosting company simply connects the server that you own to the Internet. The provision of co-location servers is centralised to a few companies’ and individuals who want to have complete control over their server configurations.

Many people opt for this kind of server service because a co-location server can save you time and the vast expense of building and maintaining a network for your server(s). A co-location solution also allows you to utilize any hardware that is necessary in order to fulfil your application's needs, whether be it dual processors, complex raid configurations and so on. Furthermore, if you find that you need several servers to satisfy your needs, a co-location solution would be more prudent as it allows you the flexibility to set up your own network and link additional servers in as needed.

With server co-location, you can have physical access to that machine as often as you like to make any upgrades or repairs. In the event that your server suffers from a major hardware or software failure, you can attend and deal with it yourself rather than relying on others to solve the problems. When you consider whether to purchase a co-location server you will need to think about the rental fees as well as any connection fees that you need to pay.

Rental fees are the costs that you will incur as a result of having your server located in the host’s data centre. The space is measured from one unit to a full rack, with most servers in the 1 or 2 Unit’s category, though they can be as large as 3 or 4 Unit’s if the server has many hard drives. Rental fees vary and will depend on how big your server is as well as all of the services that may or may not be included.
